In a certain specific rite it is heard: ‘They praise with a ṛc; they praise with a sāman.’ In that regard, if it is said: there is an option according to the previous exegetical principle;—
It is not so; because censure of the ṛc and praise of the sāman are understood from the supplementary statement. Having censured the ṛc and praised the sāman in the statement: ‘When they praise with a ṛc, the Asuras follow; when they praise with a sāman, the Asuras do not follow; he who knows thus should praise with a sāman,’ the sāman is enjoined by the optative suffix. Therefore, praise must be performed with the sāman alone.
