are the means of producing the sacrificial offering, so also are wild rice grains. Therefore, sprinkling and the rest apply. / This exegetical principle is to be applied to the eating of honey and so forth. In ‘When the Pṛṣṭhya-ṣaḍaha is concluded, one should feed honey, or clarified butter’, the duty of the Six-Day Rite, such as the observance of vows, is to be performed by means of the eating of honey. In the Rājasūya, in ‘a mess of cooked food dedicated to Nirṛti made of grains winnowed by fingernails’, the duty belonging to the mortar and pestle, namely sprinkling, must be performed on the fingernails. In the seasonal four-month rites, in ‘he should tether the animal to an enclosing-stick’, the duty of the sacrificial post, namely tethering the animal, is explicitly taught in Śruti for the animal. In the Jyotiṣṭoma, in ‘having made it *aira*, he should sing up’, the duty of the word *gir*, such as the change to *āyī*, must be performed on the word *irā*. || 19
