A word denoting substance is a word whose substratum is a substance. If the universal form were the meaning of a word, a word expressing the substratum of substance could not occur there: 'Six are to be given, twelve are to be given, twenty-four are to be given.' For the universal form is not connected with numbers such as six. Therefore, it does not designate the universal form.
