What, first, is the reality here regarding “eternal”? Being eternal is the impossibility of the loss of its own nature in another entity that has the property of non-arising; and that is not possible in the case of an absence. But it is figurative: that which lost its own nature there, that which, having come to be, ceased to be, never comes to be again; in that regard, the absence of a pot is called “eternal” as if it were eternal—this is the meaning of the category. In that case, of whatever sort sound is, no effect of that sort is observed to be eternal; thus there is no deviation.
