231.2
na mahadaṇugrahaṇamātrād abhautikatvaṃ vibhutvaṃ cendriyāṇāṃ śakyaṃ pratipattum/ idaṃ khalu ---
It is not possible to establish the non-elemental nature and omnipresence of the sense organs merely from the grasping of the large and the atomic. Indeed, this:
231.3
raśmyarthasannikarṣaviśeṣāt tadgrahaṇam ||
The grasping of those [two] is due to a particular contact between the ray and the object.
231.4
tayor mahadaṇvor grahaṇaṃ cakṣūraśmer arthasya ca sannikarṣaviśeṣād bhavati yathā pradīparaśmer arthasya ceti/
The grasping of both the large and the atomic occurs due to a particular contact between the visual ray and the object, just as between the ray of a lamp and an object.
231.5
raśmyarthasannikarṣaś cāvaraṇaliṅgaḥ/ cākṣuṣo hi raśmiḥ kuḍyādibhir āvṛtam arthaṃ na prakāśayati yathā pradīparaśmir iti//34//
And the contact between the ray and the object has obstruction as its inferential mark. For the visual ray does not illuminate an object covered by walls and the like, just like the ray of a lamp.
