NyS 1.2.17: Or, if there is no distinction because of some similarity, it would follow that there is only one quibble.
59.4
chalasya dvitvam abhyanujñāya tritvaṃ pratiṣidhyate kiñcit sādharmyāt/ yathā cāyaṃ hetus tritvaṃ pratiṣedhati tathā dvitvam apy abhyanujñātaṃ pratiṣedhati, vidyate hi kiñcit sādharmyaṃ dvayor apīti/ atha dvitvaṃ kiñcitsādharmyān na nivartate, tritvam api na nivartsyati//
Having conceded that quibble is twofold, threefoldness is denied because of some similarity. But just as this reason denies threefoldness, so too it would deny the twofoldness that was conceded, for there is indeed some similarity between the two as well. If, on the other hand, twofoldness does not cease because of some similarity, threefoldness too will not cease.
