61.4
viparītā vā kutsitā vā pratipattir vipratipattiḥ/ vipratipadyamānaḥ parājayaṃ prāpnoti/ nigrahasthānaṃ khalu parājayaprāptiḥ/ apratipattis tv ārambhaviṣaye anārambhaḥ/ pareṇa sthāpitaṃ vā na pratiṣedhati pratiṣedhaṃ vā noddharati/ asamāsāc ca naite eva nigrahasthāne iti//
Misunderstanding is an erroneous or reprehensible comprehension. One who misunderstands incurs defeat. A point of defeat is indeed the incurring of defeat. Non-comprehension, on the other hand, is the absence of undertaking in a sphere requiring undertaking: one either does not refute what has been established by the other, or does not remove a refutation. And because [the compound] is not an aggregate compound (samāsa), these are not the only two points of defeat.
