76.4

pratiṣedhalakṣaṇe svavākye teṣām avayavāśritānāṃ pratyakṣādīnāṃ prāmāṇye 'bhyanujñāyamāne paravākye 'py avayavāśritānāṃ prāmāṇyaṃ prasajyate 'viśeṣād iti/ evaṃ ca na sarvāṇi pramāṇāni pratiṣidhyanta iti/ vipratiṣedha iti vīty ayam upasargaḥ sampratipattyarthe, na vyāghāte 'rthābhāvād iti//

If validity is admitted for perception and the rest grounded in the components of the opponent's own statement, which has the character of a refutation, then validity also applies to those grounded in the components of the other's statement as well, because there is no difference. And thus not all means of valid cognition are refuted. In the word 'vipratiṣedha', the prefix 'vi' has the sense of agreement, not contradiction, because there would be an absence of meaning.
