Those faculties of cognition grasp a specific object: they illuminate a specific object for human beings—sound, touch, form, taste, and smell combined with the objects of pleasure, pain, and delusion; for the gods, they illuminate unspecific objects. Likewise, among the faculties of action, speech has sound as its object: the speech of gods and of human beings speaks, uttering verses and so forth; therefore, the faculty of speech is identical for gods and human beings. "And the remaining ones also"—distinct from speech, termed hands, feet, anus, and genitals—"have five objects": those whose objects are five, namely sound and the rest. Sound, touch, form, taste, and smell are present in the hand; the foot moves upon the earth characterised by the five [qualities], sound and the rest; the faculty of the anus performs excretion constituted by the five; likewise, the faculty of the genitals takes pleasure in semen characterised by the five.
