"From nature [arises] the great principle," and so forth. "Nature," "primordial matter," "cause," "unmanifest," "equilibrium of the constituents," "abounding in darkness," "undifferentiated"—these are synonyms for nature. From that, the great principle arises; it, however, abounds in darkness. "The great principle," "intellect," "understanding," "notion," "apprehension"—these are synonyms for intellect. From that arises the ego-maker; it, however, abounds in passion and darkness. "Ego-maker," "suparṇapaṇi," "that-spirit"—these are synonyms for the ego-maker.
