acchaü tā phalakālē phullimaṁsamaēvi kālimā vayaṇē
iya kaliuṁva palāsō cattō pattēhiṁ kiviṇōvva

‘Let alone the fruiting season—even at the time of flowering there is blackness on its face!’ / Thinking thus, as it were, the palāśa was abandoned by its leaves, like a miser [by his wealth].
