3.6.191

"Venerable Sir! Can a cultivated homeless ascetic who is deceitful and has wrong view, by the attainment of energy, the attainment of transformative power, and the attainment of erroneous clairvoyant knowledge, project [his body] into the city of Vāṇārasī, and having projected [it], know and see forms in the city of Rājagṛha?"
"Yes, he knows and sees."
"Venerable Sir, does he know and see as it really is, or know and see otherwise?"
"Gautama! He does not know and see as it really is; he knows and sees otherwise."
"For what reason, Venerable Sir, is it said: 'Does he know and see as it really is, [or] know and see otherwise?'"
"Gautama! He thinks thus: 'Indeed, having projected [myself] in the city of Rājagṛha, having projected [it], I know and see forms in the city of Vāṇārasī.' His remainder is a delusion of perception. For that reason, Gautama, it is said: 'He does not know and see as it really is; he knows and sees otherwise.'

'Venerable Sir! Can a cultivated homeless ascetic who is deceitful and has wrong view, by the attainment of energy, the attainment of transformative power, and the attainment of erroneous clairvoyant knowledge, project [his body] into a great district between the city of Vāṇārasī and the city of Rājagṛha, and having projected [it], know and see that great district between the city of Vāṇārasī and the city of Rājagṛha?'
'Yes, he knows and sees.'
'Venerable Sir, does he know and see as it really is, or know and see otherwise?'
'Gautama! He does not know and see as it really is; he knows and sees otherwise.'
'For what reason, Venerable Sir, is it said: 'He does not know and see as it really is; he knows and sees otherwise?'
'Gautama! Indeed, he thinks thus: 'This is indeed the city of Vāṇārasī; this is indeed the city of Rājagṛha; this is indeed a great district between [them]; this is not my attainment of energy, attainment of transformative power, attainment of erroneous clairvoyant knowledge, wealth, splendor, fame, strength, energy, and manly exertion that has been obtained, attained, and fully realized.' The remainder is a delusion of perception. For that reason, Gautama, it is said: 'He does not know and see as it really is; he knows and sees otherwise.'"

3.6.192

"Venerable Sir! Would a cultivated homeless ascetic who is free from deceit and possesses right view, having reached the city of Rājagṛha through the attainment of energy, the attainment of transformative power, and the attainment of clairvoyant knowledge, after having reached [it], know and see forms in the city of Vāṇārasī?"
"Yes, he knows and sees."
"Venerable Sir, does he know and see [them] as they truly are, or does he know and see [them] otherwise?"
"Gautama, he knows and sees [them] as they truly are, not otherwise."
"For what reason, Venerable Sir, is it said: 'He knows and sees [them] as they truly are, not otherwise'?"
"Gautama, he thinks thus: 'Indeed, having reached the city of Rājagṛha, after having reached [it], I know and see forms in the city of Vāṇārasī.' The rest is non-perversion of vision. For that reason, Gautama, it is said: 'He knows and sees [them] as they truly are, not otherwise.'
'Venerable Sir! Would a cultivated homeless ascetic who is free from deceit and possesses right view, having reached the city of Vāṇārasī through the attainment of energy, the attainment of transformative power, and the attainment of clairvoyant knowledge, after having reached [it], know and see forms in the city of Rājagṛha?'

'Venerable Sir! Would a cultivated homeless ascetic who is free from deceit and possesses right view, having reached between the city of Rājagṛha and the city of Vāṇārasī a great territory through the attainment of energy, the attainment of transformative power, and the attainment of clairvoyant knowledge, after having reached [it], know and see that great territory between the city of Rājagṛha and the city of Vāṇārasī?'
'Yes, he knows and sees.'
'Venerable Sir, does he know and see [it] as it truly is, or does he know and see [it] otherwise?'
'Gautama, he knows and sees [it] as it truly is, not otherwise.'
'For what reason, Venerable Sir, is it said: "He knows and sees [it] as it truly is, not otherwise"?'

The rest is non-perversion of vision.
For that reason, Gautama, it is said: "He knows and sees [it] as it truly is, not otherwise."
'Venerable Sir! Is a cultivated homeless ascetic capable of transforming [himself] into the form of a great village, or the form of a city, up to the form of a settlement, without taking external pudgalas?'
'This matter is not meaningful [i.e. not possible].'
'Venerable Sir! Is a cultivated homeless ascetic capable of transforming [himself] into the form of a great village, or the form of a city, up to the form of a settlement, after having taken external pudgalas?'
'Yes, he is capable.'
'Venerable Sir! How many village-forms is a cultivated homeless ascetic capable of transforming?'
'Gautama, just as a young man might clasp hand in hand with a young woman, so indeed up to they have transformed, they transform, or they will transform. Likewise up to the form of a settlement.'

3.6.193

"Venerable Sir, how many thousands of guardian deities are stated for Camara, the Indra of the Asuras, king of the Asuras?"
"Gautama, four [times] sixty-four thousands of guardian deities are stated. Those guardian deities—[description as before].
In this manner, for all the Indras, however many guardian deities each has, that should be stated."
"That is so, Venerable Sir! That is so, Venerable Sir!"
