Having made it, he constructed an excellent pauṣadha-hall; having made it, he approached where King Bharata was, and having approached, he quickly reported back [the fulfillment of] that command.
Then King Bharata descended from the consecrated elephant-jewel; having descended, he approached where the pauṣadha-hall was, and having approached, he entered the pauṣadha-hall. Having entered, he swept the pauṣadha-hall; having swept it, he spread out a bed of darbha-grass; having spread it out, he mounted the bed of darbha-grass. Having mounted it, he undertook an eight-meal fast directed toward the god Varadāmatīrthakumāra. Having undertaken it, performing the pauṣadha in the pauṣadha-hall, practicing celibacy, casting off gems and gold, freed from garlands, perfumes, and ointments, laying down weapons and clubs, seated on the bed of darbha-grass, solitary without a second, he remained keeping vigil through the eight-meal fast.
Then King Bharata, when the eight-meal fast was concluding, came out from the pauṣadha-hall; having come out, he approached where the outer audience hall was, and having approached, he summoned his family servants and, having summoned them, spoke thus: 'Quickly, O beloved of the gods! Equip the fourfold army consisting of horses, elephants, chariots, and excellent warriors; prepare the four-belled horse-chariot!' Having said this, he entered the bath-house. Having entered, charming with rows of pearls, likewise up to: like [the moon] emerged from a white great cloud, pleasant to behold like the moon in the midst of shining constellations, lunar mansions, and host of stars, the ruler of men, carrying incense, flowers, and fragrant garlands in his hand, came out of the bath-house; having come out, he approached where the outer audience hall was, where the four-belled horse-chariot was.
