yad gokuleśvara iti prathitiḥ purāṇe
kṛṣṇasya tad bhavati gokulam asya dhāma |
govāsatā ca kila gokulatā-nidānaṃ
govardhanas tad iha sarva-nidhānam eva || [vasanta-tilaka]

Because Kṛṣṇa is celebrated in the Purāṇas as the “Lord of Gokula,” / Gokula becomes His abode; / and the residence of cows is indeed the cause of being Gokula; / therefore Govardhana is here the repository of everything. ||
