And then, surrounded by Śrī Gopāla, the cowherd boys, tending the calves, watering them, leading them to the shore, drinking water themselves, splashing one another, and rising up and binding up their peacocks' tails, played. As they tied their feather-crests, they wandered farther to gather flowers; and while wandering, they saw that crane and conjectured: "Ah, whence this mountain from afar? Its peak is in front. Therefore, it is fitting that this was just now split by Indra's thunderbolt in anger!" But observing closely again, they said: "This does not fit as a mountain peak; rather, it is a kind of living creature, with an immeasurable head, looking as if wishing to ponder—since by its fierce glance and by the skill of its sharp beak, it is regarded as a crane."
