[16] Then Kaṃsa, narrating the entire story beginning with the voice of the sky-dweller on the day of Devakī's wedding, said: 'Thus, since each of the deeds of Pūtanā and the others—who used ever-new pretenses of poison—has had its efforts and results shattered, you today, with your game of devouring all, have an unhindered course. And here—checking midway the words "Rāvaṇa's Kumbha[karṇa]" out of fear of an ill omen, and rejecting also the comparison "like Vṛtra among the ancient gods of old"—he said this: "Certainly, as if by Dhruva's determination, the avenging of your brother and friend here must be brought under control."
