gavāṃ dhūlir nādaḥ khura-ghaṭita-ghaṭṭa-dhvani-ghaṭā
hares tāsāṃ hūtiḥ śravaṇa-gaṇa-bhid-veṇu-raṇitam |
amībhis te kṛṣṭās taratamatayā gokula-janā
na pṛṣṭhyaṃ nāgrīyaṃ na samam avidur na svam api || [śikhariṇī]

The dust of the cows, their bellowing, the mass of sounds from the clatter of hooves,
Hari's calling to them, the music of his flute piercing all ears—
drawn by these to the utmost degree, the people of Gokula
knew not what was behind, nor what was ahead, nor what was level, nor even themselves.
