vayaṃ jātyā nāryaḥ puru-guṇavatām ādṛtatamās
tathā bhartāras tat-praṇaya-naya-siddha-vraja-bhuvaḥ |
hariṇyo nedṛśyas tadapi patibhis taṃ yayur aho
dhig asmān duṣpuṇyā dadhima nahi tāsām api tulām || [śikhariṇī]

By birth we are women, most respected by those of great virtues,
and our husbands are those through whom the land of Vraja has attained affection and proper conduct;
the does are not like this, yet they went to him together with their mates; alas,
shame on us, unfortunate ones! We do not bear even an equality with them. ||52
