nadyaḥ sindhu-pati-vratā hari hari pratyakta-maryādikās
taṃ vidrutya milanti ced ahaha kā dīnās tadānīṃ vayam? |
kintu svairam amūr udūḍha-sukṛtā nāsmāsu tat-tulyatā
svalpāpīti nivṛttir eva sukhato yuktāthavā duḥkhataḥ || [śārdūlavikrīḍitam]
If the rivers, devoted wives to their lord the ocean, have cast aside their bounds, Hari! Hari!
and running swiftly unite with him, alas, then who are we, the wretched ones?!
Yet they act freely, having amassed merit; in us there is not even the slightest
equality with them; therefore, turning away—either in happiness or in sorrow—is proper. ||58
