yāsāṃ deho' py eṣa bandī-gṛhābhaḥ
kṛṣṇālābhād gopikānāṃ babhūva |
tāsāṃ gehaṃ paitṛkaṃ śarmaṇe kiṃ
yady evaṃ dhik śvāśuraṃ vahnir eva || [śālinī]

For the cowherd maidens, whose very bodies,
from not obtaining Kṛṣṇa, seemed like a prison,
would their paternal home bring any comfort?
If so, shame on their in-laws’ house—it was fire itself!
