1.16.20

yāvān ajani nirodhas tāvaty utkāpi saṃvavṛdhe |
kṛṣṇa-premavatīṣu śvāsānila-līnatāṃ yātā || [upagīti]
yadyapi manasi samiddhā hari-pariripsā tathāpi tābhiḥ sā |
āvriyate sma vicārais tatir iva vahneḥ sad-indhana-prakaraiḥ || [gīti]

as great as the restraint became, so much did their longing also increase
in those women filled with love for Kṛṣṇa, merging into the wind of their sighs.
Although their desire to embrace Hari blazed brightly in their minds, still
they covered it with deliberations, as a row of fires is covered with heaps of good fuel.
