1.16.48

yatra ca,
ghanāgama-ghanāgame viramitājitonmīlane
samasta-jana-śarmadāḥ sapadi khañjarīṭekṣaṇāḥ |
amūḥ śuci-ruci-śriyā sva-hṛdi kṛṣṇa-bhāvaṃ gatā
hari-vraja-nava-priyās tamasi līnatām āgatāḥ || [pṛthvī]

And wherein,
When the dense clouds of the rainy season gathered and the sight of the unconquered one ceased,
these young beloveds of Hari in Vraja—who instantly brought joy to all people,
whose eyes were like wagtails, and who attained the feeling of Kṛṣṇa in their hearts with the splendor of their pure beauty—
became swallowed up in darkness.
