dadhad-veṇum ānamra-hasta-pradhānaṃ
kadācin mudā sakhyur aṃse dadhānam |
dadarśa praharṣaṃ satarṣaṃ sabhītiṃ
vrajāvāsi-loko yayau cātirītim || [bhujaṅgaprayātā]

Holding the flute with his bent principal hand,
sometimes placing [his other arm] with joy upon his companion's shoulder—
the people inhabiting Vraja beheld him with great delight, longing, and awe,
and experienced an extraordinary state of emotion. ||
