rajo-bhūr yavasādy-arthas tasmān nendro gavāśrayaḥ |
kintu govardhanākhyāna-kṣauṇī-bhṛd yaḥ sa eva saḥ || nijājīvyatayā gāvaḥ kulāgatyā ca bhū-surāḥ |
āśrayatve samakṣatvaṃ yānty ete na divaukasaḥ || [anuṣṭubh]

"The provider of pasture and grass is the dust-borne [mountain]; therefore Indra is not the shelter of cows, / but it is rather this mountain known as Govardhana. / Cows by being their livelihood, and the brāhmaṇas by lineage, / are visible to the senses as our support—these heaven-dwellers are not."
