annaṃ dattvā brāhmaṇādiśvapākānt-
ebhyaḥ śvabhyo' py atra gobhyas tṛṇāni |
kṣauṇī-bhartre dīyatām annakūṭo
yasmād eṣo' py anna-kūṭābhidhaḥ syāt || [śālinī]
"Having given food down to brāhmaṇas and outcastes, / and even to dogs here, and grass to the cows, / let a mountain of food be presented to the king of the earth [Govardhana], / by reason of which this [festival] also may bear the name 'mountain of food' [Annakūṭa]."
