The hamlet of husband-and-wife couples formed by rows of trees and creepers, treating you as a guest, / beckons you with hands of trembling fresh leaves, embracing you as its own. [a] / It furthermore scatters flowers here along your path to make a carpet for your walking; / the flock of cuckoos indeed utters a choice, melodious call following yours. [b] / And with their humming, the bees joyfully produce the sound of a kettle-drum; / a hundred peacocks also, alas, expand their dance all around, led by your companions. [c] / This lord of the night spreads all around the lamp of his own brilliance; / and this path has stretched itself out, longing for the dust of your feet.” [d]
