'O fair-browed one, this best of cowherdesses acts like a true friend to you; / I swear to you and speak: accept her friendship yourself.' //
[5] When somehow his arrival was even slightly detected by the elder women, the lotus-eyed one would delight the bowers with them in his divine play.
[6] There, the cleverness of his beloved in deceiving the elder women was as follows:
'O old woman, the god who terrifies you in the nights terrifies me as well; / driven from the cowherd settlement by his ministers, he is trampling the bowers!' //
[7] Therefore, the implied meaning was: 'Do not understand otherwise in this matter, and do not go there.'
