[77] evaṃ sthite parasparaṃ carcarikā-racana-nicāyane vismāyake jāte samāja-dvaye ca mithaḥ kiṃcid dūraṃ yāte kasmād apy akasmān mūḍha-dhīḥ śaṅkhacūḍaḥ samāgataḥ | sa tu vigīta evety alam ati-tad-vistareṇa |

[77] Such being the state of affairs, while reciprocal carcarī songs were being composed to the wonder of all, and both assemblies had moved a little distance apart, suddenly, out of nowhere, the foolish Śaṅkhacūḍa arrived. But he was thoroughly vile, so enough of detailing him at length.
