[57] tad evaṃ pratyādiṣṭas tu madhumaṅgala uvāca-sarva-klamatha-mathanānāṃ śamatha-damatha-satpatha-prathana-parāṇām atha kathaṃ na bhavaty asmākam evāyaṃ doṣaḥ | yat khalu sandhy-anusandhānam etābhis tu yuddham evānubaddham asti |

[57] Thus refuted, Madhumaṅgala said, "Now, how is this not our fault alone—we who destroy all weariness and are intent on displaying the good path of calm and restraint—since a desire for peace was sought, but by these [women] battle alone has been engaged?"
