Then Yogamāyā caused Rohiṇī's seven-month-old embryo to fall away, and joined that [embryo] of the same age from Devakī into her. Thereupon, in the fourteenth month, in which the fortune of every favorable season had been attained, just before Śrāvaṇa, under the asterism Śravaṇa, Rohiṇī, who brings about all joy, gave birth to a son who was an exquisite match by enumeration of virtues, possessed of white splendor — just as the full-moon day brings forth the moon by being radiant with dense whiteness, as a lioness brings forth her cub by the manner of shown prowess, as a fresh lotus cluster brings forth a white lotus by being the receptacle of an uninterrupted stream of pure fragrance, and as faultless learning brings forth an abundance of renown by bringing auspiciousness to the assemblies of all ears.
