bālas tvaṃ na hi pūtanādi-dalanād āsīr na vāvidyathāḥ
paugaṇḍaḥ kṣiti-bhṛd-vidhāraṇa-mukha-krīḍā-kula-vyāpṛte |
naivāyaṃ ghaṭase kiśora iti ca pratyakṣa-dig-dantivad
danti-prārdanatānta-karma-racanād rājñas tataḥ kautukam || (śārdūla)

"You were not a boy, surely, because of your slaying of Pūtanā and the rest, nor could you be regarded / as a boy of the paugaṇḍa age while occupied in a multitude of deeds beginning with holding up the mountain; / nor do You fit into youth, since, like the visible cosmic guardian-elephant, / the king experienced curiosity from Your completing the killing and distressing of the elephant Kuvalayāpīḍa. ||
