sā te sarvāṅga-śobhā bata samadhigatā yena netreṇa yena
śrotreṇāśrāvi vaṃśī samagami vapuṣā yena ca sparṣa-lakṣmīḥ |
tenaivālakṣi dūraṃ gamanam avagataṃ tena sandiṣṭam ugraṃ
tena svaṃ vipralabdhaṃ racitam iti hahā jīvitaṃ dhig vidhiṃ dhik ||
Ah, by that very eye by which that beauty of all your limbs was attained, / by that ear by which the flute was heard, and by that body by which the splendor of touch was enjoyed— / by that very eye your distant departure was seen, by that ear the cruel message was perceived, / and by that body its own betrayal was suffered: alas, shame on this life, shame on destiny! ||
