ahaha vahalamantuṃ jantur eṣa pralāpī
racitamacita-tātaḥ kṣantum arhas tvam eva |
katham api nijam aṅgaṃ vyādhinā duḥkhadaṃ syat
tad api na hi tad-aṅgī tyaktum icchet kadāpi ||

“Alas! I, this prattling creature, have committed a grave fault! / O father to whom all respect is paid, you alone ought to forgive it! / If somehow one’s own limb should become painful through illness, / even so, the possessor of that limb would never wish to cast it off!” (7)
