Even so: / Ten thousand is an ayuta, and a prayuta or niyuta / is a million; / Nanda gave cows amounting to / twenty hundred-thousand—two niyutas. / Having given two million cows, / their bodies adorned with golden horns, / his heart, feeling unfilled, / longed to give to someone else. / He gave seven mountains of sesame seeds, / each made of ten droṇas, / whose encrusted gems and gold / the twice-born reckoned of far greater weight. / And the priestly fees given by him / to those deserving them / were so inexhaustible that others’ eyes / widened with astonishment. / At that time there was no prior acquaintance / with those countless brāhmaṇas; / their Vedic radiance alone / served as their introduction.
