[2] Now, at that very blameless twilight, a messenger, keeping himself disguised, arrived from the presence of glorious Vasudeva—the embodiment of all gods—at the abode extending to the lotus-like footstool of the glorious king of Vraja. Recognized by the illustrious king as a precious long-standing servant of his, greeted with inquiries after well-being, and offering his respects, he said: 'While that utterly cruel Kaṃsa is alive to devour everything like a demon, what unchecked well-being can there be? And that can be inferred from my appearance alone. Since our crossing by boat is impossible, and no setting out can happen when the sun is up, I swam across with my arms alone, crossed the Yamunā, and have arrived at twilight with wet clothes.'"
