gokuleṣu kila śīlam īdṛśaṃ
yad divā vanam ayanti gonarāḥ |
yoṣitaḥ pracura-gavya-saṃskriyāṃ
krīḍanaṃ rahasi bāla-tarṇakāḥ || [rathoddhatā] iti |
Such indeed was the custom in the cowherd settlements: / by day the cowherds go to the forest, / the women to the processing of abundant milk-products, / and the young calves and boys to play in secret. ||
