vinā vātaṃ vinā varṣaṃ vidyut-prapatanaṃ vinā |
vinā hasti-kṛtaṃ doṣaṃ kenemau pātitau drumau? || [anuṣṭubh]
ajanya-janyam etāvaj jātā nirjanatā kutaḥ? |
tasmāt tasmān mahā-garjān mūrcchām ārcchan vraje janāḥ || iti |

"Without wind, without rain, without the strike of lightning, / without damage caused by an elephant—by whom have these two trees been felled? ||37|| / Has this disaster occurred? Why has there arisen such emptiness of people?" / Because of that, because of that great roar, the people in Vraja fell into a swoon. ||38
