toyaṃ dadyāttato haste dāne vidhirayaṃ smṛtaḥ /
manasā pātramuddiśya jalaṃ bhūmau vinikṣapet //
Then one should place water in [his] hand; this is remembered as the rule for giving.
Directing one's mind toward the recipient, one should pour water onto the ground.
