mahārathānāṃ pratidantyanīkam adhisyadasyandanam utthitānām
āmūlalūnair atimanyuneva mātaṅgahastair vriyate na panthāḥ //
The path of the great car-warriors, who had mounted their swift chariots / to confront the elephant division,
was blocked by elephants' trunks severed at their roots, / as if out of boundless wrath.
