śrutisamadhikamuccaiḥ pañcamaṃ pīḍayantaḥ satatamamṛṣabhahīnaṃ bhinnakīkṛtya ṣaḍjam /
praṇijagadurakākuśrāvakasnigdhakaṇṭhāḥ pariṇatimiti rātrermāgadhā mādhavāya //
Pressing the fifth note strongly above its microtones, / constantly removing the second note, and splitting the fundamental tonic note, / the bards, their throats melodious with voice free from tremor, / announced to Mādhava the passing of the night as follows:
