deśitānupamāmādhādato noṇasuto nutim ||

Therefore, by turning all around the thirty-two rim-positions, taking every third and twenty-ninth syllable according to the written design, and observing the marks, what is produced from the thirty-two syllables is:
"By the Devī, in an appearance in a dream, the hundred [verses] were designated as the 'Devīśataka';
taught thus, the son of Noṇa composed this peerless hymn of praise." || 101
Thus this marked verse emerges. Its meaning is this: The son of Noṇa—the son of a certain man named Noṇa, named Ānandavardhana—composed, created, made this hymn of praise of the manner described. Of what sort? One whose name, "Devīśataka", was commanded and assigned by the Devī, the Sovereign of Speech, in an appearance in a dream; and thus rendered peerless. Having an indication of that nature—an instruction, a command—she is one who indicates; her quality is shown, a special status; thus, being indicated, it has no other praise, meaning it is unequaled. The sense is that, as a hymn to the Devī, it surpasses all others. || 101
