May that Gaurī take away, remove your actions, deeds whose disasters, obstacles, have approached, arrived immediately, leaving no interval; which, even when uncompleted, have destruction arising. The meaning is: may she destroy evil actions. Those men who have not resorted to the Devī, who have not taken refuge, become, turn out to be those whose masses of delusion are not driven away, whose collections of ignorance are unmoved, whose darkness is undestroyed. Just as by Gaurī the unexcelled mind of Hara, the thought of Mahādeva, preeminent in wisdom, was delighted, won over for a long, extended time. Likewise, the Devī who delivers from the perils of existence, from the suffering of the transmigratory cycle; or, existence itself is the peril, of Bhava. From what kind of peril of existence? From that whose burning pain of passion, the torment of love's affliction, is endless, boundless—the rescuer, deliverer from it. In the compound 'peril of existence' (bhavāpadaḥ), the genitive case denotes the object in conjunction with a primary noun. Alternatively, it is a qualifier of the Devī: she who exhausts, casts away the endless burning pains produced by passion. || 17–18
