Having struck down her foe, having destroyed the enemy; swallowing the pride of the gods by the weight of her foot, having destroyed the gods' conceit through the majesty of her foot: the meaning is that what the gods, though equipped with weapons, missiles, and power, could not do, the Goddess accomplished merely by the movement of her foot. And so, laughing aloud thus, having made fun in this manner, may Gaurī protect you. "Thus"—how? "O Sun [bradhna], with your horses freed from fear of the buffalo, plunge into the path of the sky, the celestial way, with confidence. O Viśvakarman, divine architect, will you not fashion from these two horns of the buffalo another, new horn-bow [śārṅga] for the Horn-Bow-Bearer [śārṅgin], Viṣṇu? What use has he for that old bow?—so goes the rhetorical question. O Lord [īśvara], this elephant hide is harsh and rough; wear, put on, this soft one—meaning the hide of the buffalo." / "The arrow [Bāṇa] has been discharged; by the bending of your hips your waist has been made devoid of folds [Bali-less]; / the joyous jingle [Prahlāda] of your anklet has gone to the directions through the footfalls upon the struck foe's head. / Slender-waisted one, in battle you torment not only Mahiṣa, but also others / who do not even fight here!"—delighted by her husband's teasing, may Śivā protect you!
