May that Goddess be for your prosperity, by whom the sovereign of the Daityas, Mahiṣa, was brought to, made to reach, destruction upon the battlefield. Of what sort? Spurned, rejected by the tip of her big toe. Again: struck, beaten by the point of her claw, by the tip of the claw of her big toe. Again: whose strength, whose vigor, was driven out by her heel, by the part below the ankle—meaning, crushed by the lower rear part of her foot. Again: approaching near her instep, in the middle of her foot, without being reckoned any more than the needle-point of a blade of kuśa grass—regarded as utterly insignificant. Having done what? Having driven his face into his navel by the blow of her foot, so that the form entered into was distorted. First, by the kick of her foot, his mouth was forced into his own navel; thereafter, he was slain. Or: having forced the wheel/face of Mahiṣa into his navel by the blow of her foot, in which there was distortion, alteration, of the form that had entered.

Having swallowed the horses of the Sun, as if out of longing for tender grass; unable to endure the heat of Fire;
scratching his itch against Sthāṇu; standing close to Death, as if in fury against a rival buffalo;
approaching Varuṇa as if to plunge [into water], desiring the dark one like mud—
reaching her foot, as if a lake, Mahiṣa found rest; may that Durgā be for your prosperity! (8)
