May Bhavānī, whose enemy was slain, who gladdened the minds of the gods, delight you—she whose left lotus foot reached the crown of that buffalo's head. What was the lotus foot like? Rising up—springing into the sky, the path of the moon-dwellers (the stars)—in order to slay the gods' foe with impetuous speed, heavily; and for that very reason watched with anxious, upturned eyes having rolled-back pupils by the immortal gods; and what was it like again? Snatched the breath of life, namely of Mahiṣa.
His head shattered on impact, his throat choking and silenced, his body a deceptive buffalo form,
upon her lotus foot—a dense, wide orb spreading a copper glow like a red lotus—
the gods' foe assumed the charm of a twelve-halved-foot (a bee) still in sweetness;
may that Śarvāṇī, praised by heaven's dwellers who dispels fear from the three worlds, protect you! || 95
