guṇabuddhyā tu bhagavān vasiṣṭhaḥ kṛtavāṃs tadā
na ca satyavratas tasya tam upāṃśum abudhyata //
The lord Vasiṣṭha had acted then with an eye to virtue, / but Satyavrata did not understand his silent vow.
