11.35

śaṃtanur uvāca
saṃkṣepeṇaiva te vakṣye yan māṃ pṛcchasi bhārata
pitṝṇāṃ kāraṇaṃ śrāddhe phalaṃ dattasya cānagha
pitaraś ca yathodbhūtāḥ śṛṇu sarvaṃ samāhitaḥ //

Śaṃtanu said: / "I will tell you in brief what you ask me, O Bhārata: / the basis of the ancestors in the śrāddha, the fruit of what is offered, O sinless one, / and how the ancestors arose; hear it all attentively.
