sā tathoktā tayā mātrā devī duṣcaracāriṇī
umety evābhavat khyātā triṣu lokeṣu sundarī //
Addressed thus by her mother, that goddess practicing severe austerities,
that beautiful maiden became renowned in the three worlds simply as 'Umā'.
