devakāryād api mune pitṛkāryaṃ viśiṣyate
devatānāṃ hi pitaraḥ pūrvam āpyāyanaṃ smṛtam //
Even beyond the rites for the gods, O sage, the rites for the ancestors are superior; / for the ancestors are remembered as the prior nourishment of the gods.
