vṛṣṇivaṃśaprasaṅgena kathyamānaṃ purātanam
nityaḥ sarvagataḥ sūkṣmaḥ śāśvataḥ puruṣottamaḥ |
yatrotpanno mahātmā sa harir vṛṣṇikule prabhuḥ //
as it is told from of old in connection with the lineage of the Vṛṣṇis, / wherein was born that eternal, all-pervading, subtle, changeless Puruṣottama, / the great-souled lord Hari, in the family of Vṛṣṇi,
